SUPPLIES NEEDED:

- Clear out the Fireplace
- Make sure you start with a completely cold fireplace. When you’re ready to clean, take out the grate and any leftover ashes. Then use a vacuum with a brush attachment to manually remove as much soot and dust as you can
- Put down waterproof drop cloth
- Fill bucket with clean water
- Get the bricks wet
- Spray bricks with 32 oz water bottle
- If there’s a secret to cleaning fireplace brick, it’s this: saturate the bricks with plain water before applying a cleanser and starting to scrub. The porous brick will absorb the water so that when you apply your soap or other cleaning solution, it will stay toward the surface instead of sinking in. You can wet the bricks down with a masonry sponge, which should be available at most hardware stores, or a spray bottle.
- Start with Method #1 – Dawn (Gentlest)
- Spray Dawn solution on bricks top to bottom
- Scrub the bricks with Glasses on
- Scrub with Drill brush with Red brick brush
- Work top to bottom so dirty water doesn’t drip down and cause streaks on areas you’ve already cleaned.
- Working in small areas to keep the bricks from drying out, scrub the surface with a firm, plastic-bristled scrub brush in a circular motion (if not using drill brush). If the soot stains don’t appear to be coming out, lightly reapply the cleaning solution and give it a few minutes to work before beginning to scrub.
- Rinse
- Once you’ve scrubbed a small area, go ahead and rinse it before moving on. Use a sponge dipped in clean water to rinse each spot several times. If the rinsing bucket becomes dirty or soapy, change the water.
- Spot-Clean Any Remaining Stains
- After you’ve cleaned large areas with the solutions above, you may need to go back and spot-clean any particularly stubborn soot stains. To do this, create a paste of either baking soda or cream of tartar mixed with a small amount of water. Apply it to the remaining soot and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Then scrub with a firm toothbrush or small scrub brush and rinse.
- Plug in and turn on handheld steamer and wait for it to heat up.
- Repeat Steps 6 through 10 if needed or if you believe you need to step it up, move to next Step
- Method #2 – Scrubbing Bubbles
- You may have to leave this on for a while (15-20 minutes) before starting to scrub.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- Handheld steamer with grout cleaning attachments (Light ‘n’ Easy Steam mop)
- Grout-EEZ cleaning product
- Water (tap is fine)
- Cleaning brush or Drill Bit Brush
- Terry Cleaning cloth
- Gloves
- Safety glasses
- Mask
STEPS:
- Put on PPE:
- Gloves
- Safety glasses
- Mask to protect yourself from hot steam and splashing from drill bit brush if using electric drill
- Apply Grout-EEZ cleaning product to the grout lines, following the manufacturer’s instructions for dwell time (how long the product sits on the grout).
- Apply a degreaser (Krud Krutter in full strength) to the shower / tub and glass surfaces and let it sit for a few minutes. This will cut through the body proteins, soap scum and hair dyes in the tub or shower.
- Fill the handheld steamer’s water tank with water according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Attach the grout cleaning attachment to the handheld steamer.
- Plug in and turn on handheld steamer and wait for it to heat up.
- Clean the grout. Hold the grout cleaning attachment brush against the grout line, applying steam directly to the area. Move the steam tip along the grout line as you gently scrub the grout to remove dirt and grime, working in small sections.
- Wipe up gunk from grout. Use a cleaning cloth to wipe away any excess cleaning solution and dirt that’s been lifted from the grout line.
- Repeat this process on all of the grout lines in the bathroom.
- Wipe down the entire bathroom floor with a cleaning cloth to remove any remaining cleaning solution or dirt before steaming the floor to clean it.
- Clean your attachments. Once you’re finished cleaning the grout, unplug the steamer. Clean the handheld steamer and grout cleaning attachment (Usually the steamer attachments are dishwasher safe and can be added to the cutlery holder in the dishwasher during your next cycle.)
